Common Area Landscaping

Landscape Committee

Posted by rbutler on Monday, February 11 @ 5:06pm

There is a lot going on for landscaping in the Maxwell Creek community and we wanted to give you all a quick update.

As scheduled, pre-spring pruning of the Crape Myrtles has been completed, and they should look great this summer. We have also had tulip bulbs planted at the north and south neighborhood entrances.

You may be curious about the blue spots in the Common Areas, they are an indicator dye that is added to sprayed chemicals to show where the chemicals have been applied. With spring just around the corner, chemical herbicide applications have been made to kill both winter and seedling weeds. Left untreated they would multiply into troublesome spring and summer weeds. When the chemical has been applied to the turf it poses no harm to humans, animals, or the environment. A slow release granular pre-emergent has also been applied to further prevent and discourage weeds.

We are continuing our effort to achieve a beautiful lush weed free lawn for the community. Please let us know if there are any areas of concern, we are doing our best make the entire landscape as enjoyable as possible.

Neighborhood Christmas Lights

Landscape Committee

Posted by rbutler on Friday, December 14 @ 8:36am

As most people have probably noticed by now, Christmas decorations have been installed around the neighborhood entrances on Bethany and Shelley. There have been a few issues with the lights around the signs failing, but we believe the vendor we contracted has finally worked it out. If you notice any problems, please call us at (972) 739-5221.

Landscape Maintenance Update

Landscape Committee

Posted by rbutler on Monday, September 10 @ 10:22am

A quick update on the improvements to the Common Area landscaping mentioned in the last newsletter: On Friday another application of MSMA weed and broadleaf herbicide was applied. You will see noticeable brown spots in the Common Areas but do not be alarmed, they are the dead and dying weeds, the turf will fill in over it rather quickly. We also have on schedule to stake the four bent trees on Malone this week.

The section of fence on Maxwell Creek Dr that was damaged in the car accident was repaired last week. The cleaning and restaining of the entire wooden fence along Bethany and Maxwell Creek Dr is scheduled for late this week / early next week.

Lighting at Neighborhood Entrances

Landscape Committee

Posted by rbutler on Thursday, April 28 @ 2:14pm

As most people have seen by now, the HOA has recently finished having lighting installed at the neighborhood entrance signs. Now that this work has been completed, we are requesting bids for enhanced landscaping around the signs and the north median along Maxwell Creek Dr. This work will involve (at a minimum) removing and/or rearranging several large bushes obscuring the sign and the installation of new seasonal flowers. Additionally, the bed around the south entrance sign on Shelley will need to be raised several inches.

Yard of the Month Program

Landscape Committee

Posted by rbutler on Monday, March 28 @ 3:28pm

The HOA is going to kick off the Yard of the Month (YOTM) program beginning this May, and the winner each month will be announced at the next Open Forum meeting, on the HOA website, and in the next HOA newsletter. Additionally, the winner each month will receive a $25 Home Depot gift card.

As part of this program, we will be inspecting all properties in the neighborhood. So, everyone has a month to clean up and fix up. We will post the progress of the inspections, as well as give everyone an opportunity to vote for the winner on the home page of our website.

We can complete the process faster with your help, give us a call at (972) 739-5221 to volunteer your time, which should be no more than an hour each month.

All candidates for YOTM should have:

  • Well manicured, weed-free yards,
  • Trimmed bushes and shrubs,
  • Aesthetically appealing flowers or other elements.
For more information on the exact details, please check out the Community Beautification Standards.

The trees from the City's Trees for Allen program arrived yesterday, and were planted this morning. They're a little scrawny right now, but should grow quite nicely over the next few years and really enhance the look of the neighborhood.

The long-planned irrigation work has begun along Malone! The plan is for sprinkers to be installed along the entire length of Malone from the corner of Shelley to the Country Day School. Once the sprinklers have been installed, the area will be scalped and weeded, and Bermuda grass will be sprayed in. After all of this work has been completed, there will be a further discussion about planting new landscaping along Malone.
