Each quarter, Keep Allen Beautiful and the City of Allen provide a safe, environmentally friendly way for Allen residents to dispose of unwanted or obsolete computers and small electronics. Recycling these items instead of sending them to the landfill saves money, conserves valuable resources, and prevents pollution.
Bring your recyclable electronics to Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, beginning at 8 a.m. on August 7. Collection will end promptly at 1 p.m. OR when the trucks are full. Participants must show their driver's license and current water utility bill as proof of Allen residency. Accepted items include computers and computer peripherals, fax machines, answering machines, microwaves, toasters, toaster ovens, mixers, and other small electric kitchen appliances (without Freon). No televisions will be accepted at this event.

It has come to the attention of the Allen Police Department that there is a new drug by the name of K-2 that has made its way into Allen. K-2 is a chemical compound that can be sprayed onto potpourri, tobacco, or other organic materials and smoked. This gives the user the same type of high or euphoria that would be found in the active ingredient of marijuana; THC. These effects have been reported to be as much as 32% more potent than those of marijuana. K-2 is completely legal at this time.
In addition to K-2, salvia divinorum, or salvia, is another legal substance that gives the user the same type of high as marijuana. Salvia is a plant that can also be found in Allen.
The Police Department has the full support of the Mayor, the City Council, the City Manager’s Office, as well as other city departments, as we investigate the validity of the full extent and effects of K-2 and salvia. If these effects are proven to be true, the police department will bring this matter before the City Council. At this time, the necessary solution will be presented to the City Council to prevent the possession, manufacture, usage, or distribution of K-2. The solution could come in the form of a city ordinance, working with the state legislature for new laws, or other options.
We ask parents and teachers to warn their children of the unknown dangers of K-2 and salvia. This substance has not been fully researched, therefore side effects and long term effects are unknown.
If you have any information on K-2 or salvia, you are asked to call or e-mail Sgt. Shaw at 214-509-4206 or nshaw@cityofallen.org.
Please be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior or people wandering around the neighborhood. There have been several reports of vandalism on Oak Brook over the last couple of months, most recently a mailbox that was knocked over on Saturday.
If you notice anything (or anyone) out of the ordinary, or causing trouble, please contact the Allen Police Department immediately.

Saturday, May 8The construction taking place along Bethany Drive, between Malone Road and FM 2551, is being undertaken by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD). NTMWD provides regional water treatment and wastewater treatment for the greater North Texas Region, throughout Collin County and beyond.
You may recall, several years ago, NTMWD installed a new 60-inch sanitary sewer line along Malone Road, the north side of Bethany, and west side of FM 2551. That new line was installed adjacent to, and parallel to, an older 60-inch pipeline made of concrete. That older line is in need of repair. Rather than remove and replace the line, the NTMWD is able to excavate pits at strategic locations and repair the line by trenchless means between pits (a process called insituform lining, wherein they coat the inside of the older pipe with a sock).
