Social Committee Meeting Minutes (August 29th, 2005)
March 14th, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 1607 Woodstream Ln. at 6:30pm.
Present
- Stephanie Butler - Committee Chairperson
- Yesika Fletcher - Volunteer Coordinator
- Mandy Diercks
- David Findley
- Andrea Westmoreland
Items Discussed
- The Halloween Patry will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 4 - 6pm in the cul-de-sac on Woodstream Ln. Both children and adults are invited to dress up. We will be holding best costume contests, providing fresh popcorn, apples, and trick-or-treat candy for everybody.
- The kickoff is being held on Saturday because 1) children will have fun dressing up twice rather than just one time and 2) Monday is a school night. Also, after moving the time for the event to earlier in the evening, we heard several comments that it was more enjoyable and safer than in the dark. In addition, when we held the party on Halloween the first year, we had a large number of older children from other local neighborhoods coming in and taking candy, and generally causing trouble.
- We need volunteers for the following tasks:
- Pick up and return popcorn machine from Star Walk of Dallas: 10757 Mapleridge Dr., Dallas, TX 75238 (214) 340-6666
- Set up, man, and clean up the popcorn popper
- Pick up pumpkins (380 in Princeton)
- Pick up hay (Feed Store on Ave K South of Sam's Club). Rob no longer has a truck and you really don't want hay in anything other than a truck. Stephanie picked it up one year in her SUV and it was a nightmare trying to get it all out.
- We need to decide whether there's going to be a costume contest or not, and if so, we need to get volunteers to judge. We have some medals left over from last year, Stephanie's not sure how many.
- We need to get the tables from Bill's house and set them up. Bill can probably bring the tables down, and we still have tablecloths left over from the block party. We usually put some of the varnished seasonal vegetables (mini-pumpkins, squash, etc) as decorations (Kroger).
- Someone needs to take pictures of the event and families. (Howard? He has a good camera and enjoys taking pictures).
- Someone needs to contact Sue Gooding to see if her daughter can dress up as a clown again to help entertain the children.
- A few general questions were asked about other social activities in the neighborhood, such as getting people together for poker or Bunko.
- Unless additional volunteers come forward to plan, organize and run future activities, this will be the last event for some time.
