Water Conservation
Restrictions in Effect
Effective November 1, 2011: STAGE 3 of the Drought Contingency and Emergency Water Response Plan will be implemented! Ordinance No. 2760-8-08. 10% REDUCTION GOAL FOR THIS STAGE!
At Stage 3, customers may use sprinklers or irrigation systems twice monthly for yard watering (November 1-March 31). Customers must use both the Stage 3 Outdoor Watering Schedule Map and the Stage 3 Watering Date Table to identify the two specific days per month that this watering is permitted. Link to map and table. Stage 3 is being implemented due to a critically short water supply and therefore enforcement of restrictions will be significantly increased to include 24/7 patrolling. No warnings will be issued and citations are punishable by significant fines up to $2,000 for each violation. Some of the items included in Stage 3 of the Plan are as follows:
- All other restrictions apply from the Water Conservation Plan, and Stages 1, 2 & 3 of the Plan.
- Limit landscape watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems between November 1 and March 31 to once every two weeks. Exception: Foundations, shrubs, and trees may be watered up to two hours any day by hand-held hose, a soaker hose, or a dedicated zone using drip irrigation systems.
- Prohibit the operation of spray ground recreation water parks that do not treat and recirculate water.
- Prohibit hydroseeding, hydromulching, and sprigging of any grass species. Prohibit planting/watering of any cool season grass species (such as ryegrass).
- Existing swimming pools may not be drained and refilled (except to replace normal water loss). Permits to construct new pools may continue to be issued and the pools may be constructed and filled with water.
- Initiate mandatory water use restrictions as follows:
- Prohibit hosing of paved areas, buildings, or windows. (Pressure washing of impervious surfaces is allowed.)
- Prohibit operation of all ornamental fountains or other amenity impoundments that use treated water.
- Prohibit washing or rinsing of vehicles by hose unless using a shut-off nozzle.
- Prohibit using water in such a manner as to allow runoff or other waste.
This is NOT a complete listing of restrictions for Stage 3. See Drought Plan and implementing ordinance.
